******** OREH - Part 2 ********
Isabella and Haley sat on the dock by the lake, dangling their feet in the water. The lake was deserted, it was just them. No one had said a word the rest of the way there and the silence was starting to become deafening. “So what are these oh so amazing powers you were talking about?” Haley asked smiling.
Isabella laughed, “I never said that.” Still giggling she continued, “But yes I did mention having powers. Though I’m still not one hundred percent sure how to control them, how many I have or how many I will have. But so far I have discovered three.”
“Well come one, tell me.”
“Well I was just going to show you but if you just want me to tell you then...”
“No! No please show me.” Haley pleaded, grabbing on to Izzy’s arm and shaking her. “PLEEEEEEEEEASE!”
“Okay, okay just let go crazy lady.” She let go and Izzy smiled. “Bye.”
“Wha...” Haley didn’t get the chance to finish her question before Isabella vanished. “Hey! What? Where...?” Haley started turning her head left and right looking everywhere for her best friend. She jumped to her feet and turned around. “Izzy?” Something hit her shoulder and she spun around. “Isabella? Whoa!” Izzy reappeared right in front of her.
“So what did you think?” She asked proudly.
“Where did you go?”
“No where.” She smiled. “You just couldn’t see me.”
“Invisibility. Sweet! What else you got?” Haley asked failing to hide her excitement. Izzy looked down at the ground for a minute, placed her feet shoulder width apart, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. “What are you...?” Isabella snapped her eyes open, looked to the sky and began to rise into it. “You can fly?!” She stopped after she was about 10 feet above the lake.
“It would seem so. This is the most recent one I’ve discovered. Remember that movie and planes we watched in history class?” Haley nodded. “Well I was dreaming about it that night. About flying. And when I woke up, I wasn’t in my bed, I was above it. After a few seconds of floating like that I fell face first onto my pillow. But the more I practice the longer I can stay up. This right now is actually a record for me I think.” As if on cue, Isabella fell into the lake, landing on her side. A few moments later she resurfaced.
“You had to say it.” Haley laughed as she helped her soaking wet friend out of the water.
“Well that was number two, but as you could probably tell, invisibility is a lot easier to control.”
“So what’s the third one?” Haley asked getting excited again.
“Could I have a minute to dry off and get my strength back? Flying for that long felt like running a marathon.”
“Right. Sorry. Here.” Haley handed her her towel, then both of them sat back down on the dock. “Why do you think it tires you out so much?”
Isabella was currently wrapping her long brown hair up into the towel. “I’m not sure. Maybe it has something to do with the whole defying gravity thing?”  Izzy replied sarcastically.
“Ha ha very funny.” They both laughed and looked out across the lake. “So these powers started coming in about a week ago?”
“Um-hmm.” Isabella humbled, taking the towel out of her hair and running her finger through it. “Right around...”
“... your seventeenth birthday.” Haley finished her sentence for her. “Do you think that’s the age when a Orellian’s powers start to come in?”
“A guess as good as any. I don’t know, my mother didn’t get a chance to tell my parents  anything about abilities before she died.”
“Well I guess you and me will just have to figure them out for ourselves then.” Haley smiled.
“You bet. And speaking of...” Izzy stood up, holding out her hand to help up her friend. “I have a third power to show you.” Haley grabbed her hand and jumped up, excitement all over her face. “Okay, I’m not quite sure how to show you this one.” Isabella looked around her, over her shoulders at the beach. “Ooh.” She cried seeing something that might help her. “Follow me.” She called as she started running down the dock and onto the shore. Once she found what she was looking for she stopped, Haley nearly running straight into her. “Here. Pick up the rocks.” She pointed to the pile of large grape sized rocks.
“Why?”
“Just trust me.” Haley obeyed and filled both her hands with rocks.
“Now what?” She asked getting more curious by the second.
“Drop them.” Isabella stated.
“What? But you just...”
“Haley! Trust me”
“Fine.” Haley dropped the rocks. Watching them, she waited for them to hit the ground, but they never did. Right when they were about to hit the ground, they stopped their decent in mid-air. “You... whoa.” The rocks started floating up in the air, dancing around Haley’s head, spinning around her.
“I can move just about anything I want to just by looking at it. But I’ve been wanting to try out the rock trick for a while now.” She smiled. “ Telekinesis. I looked it up. The ability to move objects with your mind.” The rocks were still floating in the air, Haley staring at them in awe. Izzy flicked hear head up, the rocks following, now a few feet above them. She flicked her head again this time towards the lake. All the rocks went sailing through the air, hitting the lake with a splash. They stared at the water for a few moments. “Okay, now I’m really tired.” Isabella bent over, her hands on her knees.
“But that was so cool! What else can you move? Could you lift me? Or my dad’s truck? What about a boat? What’s the biggest thing you’ve ever moved? Was this your first power or you second? Did you...?”
Izzy looked up at her, straightened, put her hands on her shoulders and butted in saying, “Haley, I’ll make you a deal. I will answer all of your questions if you do not ask or even talk about Orellian and powers for the next twenty-four hours. Using my abilities is really tiring and right now I just want to go back to my house for our sleep-over. Do we have a deal?”
Haley looked at her for a minute, holding her gaze. She broke, “Fine,” looking the other way.
“Thank you. But the twenty-four hours doesn’t start yet.”
“Why not?”
“Because there’s something we need to do first.”
“Which is?”
“Well, my parents kind of told me not to tell anyone. And now we have to tell them that I told you.”
“Okay, two things. First, if they told you not to tell anyone then why did you tell me? And second, why do I have to be present for that conversation? It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a very nice one.”
“Because,” Isabella said, “One, you are my best friend Haley. How could I not tell you something like this? And two, because they really like you and I think that if they see us together and how much happier I am now that you know, they might go a little easier on me.” She smiled hopefully.
“Okay, fine. Lets go.” The two girls walked back to the house, planning the best way to break the news to her parents.
I love super powers and I'm looking forward to writing about her future ones :) please comment
